First Impressions of the University

Frankly, when it comes to college, I had no idea what to expect and given the fact that I'm someone whose expectations are rarely more than pretty much nonexistent, the university in Pardubice came out as a pleasant surprise indeed. Week four is about to start and I’d say so far so good. There are bound to be, without a doubt, at least some problems because nothing is perfect in this world, but the classes and the professors are quite all right. Even the food in the canteen is digestible for the most part… I’m kidding, save for one vegetarian dish I once chose by mistake (one that I’ll never make again), I enjoyed all the meals that I had there, I just don’t want to look like someone who has low food standards (people love to judge, you know).

There isn’t really anything that I don’t like in particular, nothing I could come up with off the top of my head at least. Some don’t like the building we have most of our classes in and, hey, I get it, it does look bad. But it doesn’t matter. What matters is that it has functioning elevators and heating, right? And though I was worried a little what the literature class would be like and that was, like, my main concern - because, let’s be honest, I’m not the keenest reader out there - I found it fairly interesting in the end.

Maybe I’m weird, maybe I was simply way too long out of school, but all in all, I do like the university.

Me & English

Let me start by saying I love English. I do! It has arguably been my favorite language ever since I first truly came to contact with it. That is, when I was able to understand more than a label saying „Made In China“ – and pronounce it correctly, which may be just about ten years now. I don’t think there was a time when I was uninterested in the language or I simply, God forbid, disliked it. As a matter of fact, in high school, it was the subject I was always looking forward to the most. I never had to worry about passing a test without studying for it like many of my classmates. I reckon I was lucky, go figure!

As to where I actually got my English skills from, I mostly tend to give credit to three things: video games, TV shows, and music. Truth be told, whenever I‘m asked the question about English and how I learned it, I always answer with the aforementioned trio. If it weren’t for the advances in technology, mostly in electronics, during the past few decades, I highly doubt I could talk to people using the language I now hold very dear, let alone consider majoring in it. Luckily, I was born in an era where I can communicate with people across the entire globe. In English. And they know what I'm saying! Well, most of the time, anyway...

About Me

I’m a young, supposedly quite good-looking, not entirely unintelligent but a chronically procrastinating and oftentimes childish male who has absolutely no idea what he’s going to do for living one day. I’ve lately started dabbling in cinematography and computer graphics though, so I guess I’d like to see myself doing that one day. And there will always be something I can do with my knowledge of English (or I hope there will be), assuming I make it through college of course.

In my free time, apart from expanding my set of skills working on various video and/or graphic design projects, I enjoy watching movies, listening to music, I like to party (occasionally), hanging out with friends and while I don’t mind meeting new people, only a select few will probably understand my humor and way of thinking -then again, sometimes not even I understand myself. I also used to be a rather enthusiastic video gamer when I was younger, however I believe I’ve managed to almost grow up in that regard.
